Background

There are significant knowledge gaps regarding the availability of education and training programmes, particularly in the case of developing countries where little analysis has been conducted. Moreover, educational systems worldwide are not primed to provide the renewable energy (RE) market with the necessary quality and quantity of skilled workers that are required, consequently hampering its development.

IRENA aims to dismantle the aforementioned barriers through a collaborative effort to establish a one-stop-shop for renewable energy education and training, namely IRENA Renewable Energy Learning Partnership (IRELP).

Launched in April 2012 during the third Clean Energy Ministerial in London, it was created to increase and facilitate access to renewable energy education and training, thereby meeting the growing worldwide demand for skilled renewable energy personnel.

Features

IRELP offers users access to and information on global RE education and training programmes, RE training materials within the library, a database of webinars and an e-learning platform where students receive support through lectures and tutorials. IRELP will also provide a knowledge exchange corner (Forum) where professors and renewable energy experts can collaborate to develop renewable energy curricula.
