History

The house has recently been called the Historic farm house because it was originally built before 1874. The Historic Farmhouse was owned and called the Stark Farmhouse. It is considered the oldest and last farm house in the area. It is an Italian style two-story gabled house that was built on a stone foundation. The house also a basement and bay area on the south facing wall. The house was built by Joseph and Mary Stark in 1874. However, the land was purchased in 1871 for $2,200 from William W. Ingraham and Hellen M. Ingraham. In the beginning the land was homesteaded by the Ingraham family. Then in the Stark's bought he house and kept in until the 1930s. Then in 1945 the Hartings bought the house and eventually, the village received the house in 1993.

Preservation

In 1996, the Village of Carol Stream took measures to help preserve Carol Streams historic history. The Village of Carol Stream hired Anne McGuire to create a preservation plan to help repair the house. Currently, the house is used as the headquarters of the Carol Stream Historical Society. The society provides tours of the house to anyone who wants to learn more. The Village of Carol Stream has recently added new windows and siding to help make the house more energy efficient trying to keep the look of the house as close to the original.
